Reknown Edu Services Reveals Study Abroad Challenges

Reknown Edu Services Releases Data-Driven Analysis of 466 Reddit Posts Revealing Why Indian Students Fail at Studying Abroad

Bangalore, India: Reknown Edu Services, a Bangalore-based study abroad consultancy, has released a comprehensive analysis of 466 Reddit discussions that sheds light on one of the most overlooked challenges facing Indian students aspiring to study overseas: making critical educational and immigration decisions without access to personalized, actionable information.

The study analyzed conversations across five major study abroad communities on Reddit, including r/Indians_StudyAbroad, r/studying_in_germany, r/MBA, r/studyAbroad, and r/StudyInIreland. The dataset included more than 12,895 upvotes and nearly 14,000 comments, representing authentic student experiences, concerns, and decision-making patterns.

According to the findings, the majority of Indian students do not struggle because they lack academic qualifications or ambition. Instead, they often face setbacks due to incomplete information about their profiles, university eligibility, visa risks, financial readiness, and application timelines.

The analysis revealed that 39% of discussions focused on university selection and CGPA eligibility uncertainty, particularly around how Indian grading systems are interpreted by foreign universities. Another 21% centered on visa and immigration concerns, where students often discovered profile-related issues such as gap years, financial documentation gaps, or travel history concerns too late in the process.

Financial planning emerged as another major challenge, accounting for 17% of discussions, while 10% focused on country selection decisions. Application documentation such as Statements of Purpose (SOPs) and Letters of Recommendation (LORs) represented 6% of discussions, and standardized test preparation contributed 5%. The remaining conversations involved accommodation planning, mental health concerns, and long-term career outcomes.

The research became a turning point for Reknown Edu Services and its founder, Pratik Jain, who recognized a recurring pattern across student experiences.

“The data showed us that students aren’t failing because they’re unprepared,” said Jain. “They’re failing because the right information isn’t accessible at the right moment. Students are often forced to make high-stakes decisions involving lakhs of rupees and years of their future without having a clear understanding of their own profiles.”

To address these challenges, Reknown Edu Services developed a suite of nine free online tools designed to help students make more informed decisions before investing in expensive consultancy services or application processes.

Among the most notable tools is the Indian CGPA to German GPA Converter, which applies the Modified Bavarian Formula used by German universities to provide accurate eligibility insights. Students can also access a Visa Rejection Risk Analyzer, which identifies potential red flags based on destination country requirements and provides recommendations to strengthen applications.

Additional resources include a Document Preparation Checklist Tool, Application Readiness Scorecard, Financial Readiness Calculator, Scholarship Odds Predictor, University Offer Comparison Tool, University Deposit Deadline Calculator, and an LOR Email Request Generator that helps students efficiently request recommendation letters.

Unlike many educational resources that require registration or paid subscriptions, all nine tools are available free of charge without mandatory sign-up requirements. The initiative reflects the company’s broader mission of making reliable study abroad guidance more accessible to Indian students.

According to Jain, empowering students with accurate information early in their planning journey can significantly improve outcomes.

“An informed student asks sharper questions, wastes less money on wrong consultants, and makes faster decisions,” he explained. “Our goal is to create clarity before students spend money. Better information leads to better decisions, and better decisions lead to stronger study abroad outcomes.”

As international education continues to attract thousands of Indian students each year, data-driven approaches like this analysis may help address many of the common mistakes that delay applications, increase financial risk, or negatively impact admission and visa success rates.

The analysis was conducted using publicly available Reddit discussions and represents authentic student-generated conversations as of May 2026. Reknown Edu Services believes the findings provide valuable insights not only for students but also for educators, counselors, and policymakers seeking to improve international education outcomes for Indian applicants.
