Amit Singh: From Telecom Networks to Building Technology-Led Businesses

A two-decade journey across enterprise technology, strategic sales and entrepreneurship—and a leadership philosophy centred on capability, customer value and sustainable growth.

MUMBAI | BUSINESS & LEADERSHIP

In a career that began with telecommunications operations and moved through presales, solution engagement, enterprise sales and regional leadership, Amit Singh has spent more than two decades at the meeting point of technology and business. Today, as Chairman & Managing Director of Olatech Solutions, his role is increasingly focused on strategic initiatives, innovation and building businesses that can adapt to changing technology markets.

The career arc behind the entrepreneur

The modern technology entrepreneur is often described through the lens of the company he or she leads. Amit Singh’s professional story, however, starts much earlier with the infrastructure, networks and enterprise technology that underpin the digital economy.

His career began at MTNL Mumbai, where he worked across operations and maintenance, network planning and performance management for GSM switching systems and value-added service platforms. He also managed a five-member team. That early exposure gave him a practical understanding of how technology performs in real operating environments—and what customers expect when systems have to work reliably.

The next stage was a move into presales at ZTE Telecom India. Working around CDMA technology and Tata Teleservices, Singh handled responsibilities that extended from laboratory testing and solution validation to presales and elements of sales across India. The role brought together technical problem-solving and customer engagement, establishing a pattern that would continue through his career: understand the technology, understand the customer, and then connect the two.

From solution selling to enterprise leadership

Singh subsequently moved through roles at Dialogic, NSN and Huawei, progressively taking on larger commercial and strategic responsibilities.

At NSN, he worked as a Solution Engagement Manager, maintaining customer engagement and participating in solution management and system integration activities. His profile also records recognition as a “Hunter” at the global level—an indication of his focus on identifying new opportunities.

At Huawei, his work centred on solution selling and customer engagement for Core Network and Carrier Software Solutions, including relationships involving Vodafone India and Tata. The combination of technical knowledge, presales experience and customer-facing responsibility became an important foundation for his later sales leadership roles.

At Elitecore Technologies, Singh became Regional Sales Head, working across the West India market. His experience there included breakthrough engagements with major accounts including Tata, Reliance Communications, Idea and Vodafone, alongside opportunities involving Essel, Tata Sky and Asianet. His profile records the company’s largest deal at that point among his achievements, as well as recognition as a Sales Champion.

The progression continued at Mavenir, where Singh served as Director – Sales, India & South Asia. His professional profile records achievement of approximately twice his target in his final year there.

The shift from selling solutions to building a company

In 2017, Singh entered a new phase of his career as Chairman & Managing Director of Olatech Solutions. The move from corporate sales leadership to entrepreneurship changed the scale and nature of his responsibilities.

Olatech Solutions operates in technology areas including software, network monitoring and management, analytics, AAA solutions, data-centre infrastructure management, ERP and CRM solutions, web and digital services. The company describes itself as an ISO 9001:2015-certified public limited company and lists experience across telcos, ISPs, enterprises, data-centre service providers and the public sector.

The transition required a different kind of leadership. Enterprise sales is often about winning the next account; entrepreneurship requires building the organisation that can repeatedly win, deliver and retain business. That means developing people, capabilities, partnerships, processes and products while keeping a close watch on market shifts.

In a recent management presentation, Singh described his role at Olatech as leading “strategic initiatives and innovation,” while also overseeing funding requirements. That description captures the widening scope of his responsibilities as the business has developed beyond individual technology engagements.

A technology business evolving with the market

The technology sector Singh entered early in his career has changed dramatically. Telecom infrastructure has become more software-driven, enterprise customers increasingly expect integrated digital solutions, and artificial intelligence is reshaping how products and services are designed and delivered.

Olatech has been expanding its technology portfolio and partnerships in this environment. The company has publicly discussed areas including AI-oriented products, software solutions, servers and data-centre technologies. In January 2025, Olatech announced an authorised distribution partnership with xFusion covering rack servers, AI servers, high-density servers, HCI and HPC solutions.

For a leader whose career began inside telecom infrastructure and progressed through enterprise solution selling, this evolution represents a familiar challenge: technologies change, but the fundamental business questions remain. What problem is being solved? Who needs the solution? How can it be delivered reliably? And how can the business build a sustainable commercial model around it?

Growth through diversification

Singh’s current professional portfolio also reflects an interest in businesses beyond a single technology vertical.

He is associated with businesses operating across education and professional upskilling, digital marketing and business automation, bio-energy, healthy foods and investment-oriented activities. Olatech Digital, for example, positions itself around digital marketing, business automation and branding, combining strategy, creativity and technology.

SkillsBiz Education operates in the career-focused education and upskilling space, while other board-level associations extend into sectors such as green carbon manufacturing and healthy foods.

This diversification places a premium on a transferable leadership skill: understanding the fundamentals of a business quickly enough to identify its opportunities, constraints and growth levers. Singh’s career across telecom, software, enterprise sales and entrepreneurship provides a broad commercial context for that role.

The leadership principle: build capability, then build growth

In his message to shareholders in Olatech Solutions’ FY2024–25 Annual Report, Singh wrote: “We believe in creating value by taking constant efforts towards building capabilities and developing our competitive edge.” The statement provides a concise window into the philosophy he has articulated publicly as the company has evolved.

The emphasis on capability is significant. Growth can come from a successful product, a major customer or a favourable market cycle, but sustainable growth requires organisational depth—people who can execute, systems that can scale, technology that can evolve and customer relationships that can endure.

That perspective is consistent with Singh’s career path. His early roles gave him technical grounding; presales and solution engagement added customer and product understanding; enterprise sales added commercial discipline; and entrepreneurship brought responsibility for the wider organisation.

The result is a leadership profile shaped less by a single function and more by the connections between functions.

Looking ahead

As technology continues to move toward AI, automation, cloud infrastructure and increasingly integrated enterprise platforms, Singh’s career enters another phase in which the challenge is not simply adopting new technology but converting it into practical business value.

His professional journey—from managing telecom infrastructure to developing enterprise relationships, leading regional and South Asian sales, and ultimately building a technology company—offers a useful lens on how the role of a technology leader has changed.

For Singh, the next chapter is likely to be defined by the same themes that have run through his career: identifying opportunities, understanding customers, developing capabilities and turning technology into scalable business outcomes.

At Olatech, his stated focus on strategic initiatives and innovation places those themes at the centre of his current role. And after more than two decades across technology and business development, the journey continues to move in the same direction: from solving individual technology problems to building organisations capable of solving them at scale.

“We believe in creating value by taking constant efforts towards building capabilities and developing our competitive edge.”
