Indian Kalaripayattu Federation Calls for Transparency and Accountability Over Alleged Financial Irregularities

Federation reviews enquiry findings, raises concerns over unauthorised financial activities, and considers legal action to protect its reputation and members’ interests.

The Indian Kalaripayattu Federation (IKF) has expressed serious concern over alleged financial irregularities and activities reportedly carried out in the name of the organisation by individuals who, according to the Federation, are not authorised office-bearers. The Federation has stated that it is taking organisational steps to address these concerns, promote financial transparency, and protect the interests of its members and the wider Kalaripayattu community.

The matter relates to allegations of unauthorised collection of money, questionable financial transactions, and the alleged use of the Federation’s name and recognition in ways that could mislead members of the public, Kalaripayattu practitioners, and government authorities. The Federation has emphasised the importance of ensuring that all activities conducted under its name are properly authorised, transparent, and consistent with applicable rules and legal requirements.

Notices Issued to Concerned Individuals

According to the Federation, a committee meeting held on 1 October 2026 resulted in a decision to issue notices to the individuals concerned. The notices were intended to provide them with an opportunity to explain their positions and respond to the allegations raised against them.

The Federation has stated that it did not receive satisfactory explanations within the stipulated period. It has also referred to observations contained in an Enquiry Commission Report and supporting documents, which reportedly raise concerns about financial dealings, the collection of money from members without appropriate authorisation, and actions alleged to have affected the organisation’s reputation.

The Federation considers these matters significant because public confidence and trust are essential to the functioning of a national organisation representing a traditional martial art such as Kalaripayattu. It has maintained that allegations involving financial accountability and the use of an organisation’s identity must be examined carefully and addressed through appropriate procedures.

Executive Committee Reviews Available Records

During its Executive Committee meeting held on the morning of 13 October 2026, the Federation reviewed the available records and documents relating to the matter.

The Committee reportedly observed that certain documents relevant to the allegations could not be located in the Federation’s official records. According to the Federation, there is a possibility that these documents may be in the possession of the individuals concerned. The status and whereabouts of the documents form part of the concerns that the organisation says require further attention.

Following its review, the Committee reportedly decided that the individuals concerned, namely Dr. Ambu R. Nair, G. Radhakrishnan, K. P. Krishnadas, Adv. Vidhumohan, and N. Sunilkumar, should refrain from participating in the official activities of the Indian Kalaripayattu Federation.

The Committee has also recommended initiating appropriate civil and criminal legal proceedings in connection with the alleged financial irregularities. Any such proceedings would be subject to applicable legal processes, and the allegations should be distinguished from findings established by a competent authority.

Federation Appeals for Public Vigilance

The Indian Kalaripayattu Federation has urged its members, instructors, affiliated representatives, and members of the public to exercise caution when dealing with individuals claiming to represent the organisation.

The Federation has advised people to verify the official position and authorisation of anyone collecting money, requesting contributions, or conducting activities in its name. It has stressed that individuals should not assume that a person is authorised to represent the Federation solely because that person claims an association with the organisation or uses its name and recognition.

The Federation has further highlighted the importance of maintaining proper documentation for financial transactions. Payments and collections undertaken on behalf of an organisation should be supported by appropriate authorisation, clear records, and transparent procedures. Such practices help protect members from potential financial misuse and ensure that legitimate organisational activities can continue without unnecessary confusion.

Members or other individuals who possess documents or evidence relating to potentially suspicious financial transactions have been encouraged to bring the information to the attention of the Federation’s official leadership for appropriate examination.

Commitment to Accountability and the Future of Kalaripayattu

Kalaripayattu is a traditional martial art with deep cultural and historical significance. Organisations working to promote and represent the discipline have a responsibility to maintain public trust, uphold ethical standards, and ensure that their activities serve the interests of practitioners and members.

Indian Kalaripayattu Federation

The Indian Kalaripayattu Federation has stated that it intends to take the necessary organisational and legal measures to address the concerns raised in the enquiry and protect its reputation. The Federation has reiterated that financial transparency, responsible administration, and respect for established procedures remain important priorities.

The developments underline the need for clear communication, proper authorisation, and accountability in the administration of organisations representing traditional sports and cultural practices. The Federation has maintained that concerns of this nature must be addressed through appropriate institutional and legal channels, with due consideration for the relevant records and procedures.

As the matter progresses, the Federation has called upon its members and the public to remain vigilant, verify claims of official representation, and cooperate with the organisation’s authorised leadership in protecting the interests of the Kalaripayattu community.
