Nirvana Naturopathy & Retreat: Digestive Health Case Study

Clinical Case Study: A Seven-Day Naturopathy Journey Towards Better Digestive Health

There are health problems that arrive suddenly and demand attention. Then there are those that stay quietly for years, gradually becoming a part of everyday life. Chronic constipation often belongs to the second category. When it continues for years, accompanied by bloating, acidity and heartburn, it can begin to influence much more than digestion. Meals become stressful, routines become restrictive, and a person starts planning the day around the possibility of discomfort.

Mrs. Leelawati, 41, had been living with severe constipation for nearly a decade. Her digestive concerns included persistent bloating, acidity, burning heartburn and difficulty with regular bowel evacuation. Alongside this, she had been dealing with Rheumatoid Arthritis for approximately four years, with joint stiffness and discomfort adding another dimension to her health concerns.

After years of managing these problems, she came to Nirvana Naturopathy & Retreat, Igatpuri, Nashik, seeking a more structured approach to her wellbeing.

Her seven-day residential programme, from 6 September to 12 September 2026, was conducted under clinical supervision and included naturopathic therapies, dietary modification and lifestyle-based interventions. The programme was supervised by Dr. Roshni Bala, with the treatment plan delivered under the guidance of qualified BNYS doctors at Nirvana Naturopathy & Retreat.

Looking at the Person, Not Just the Problem

At Nirvana, the approach to Leelawati’s case was not limited to asking whether she had passed stool that day. Her long history of constipation, digestive discomfort, dietary habits, physical condition and associated symptoms were considered together.

That distinction matters.

When a digestive problem has been present for ten years, there is rarely one simple question or one isolated answer. The focus was therefore placed on creating a disciplined environment where appropriate naturopathic therapies, diet, rest and lifestyle correction could work together.

Natural Hydrotherapy as Part of the Programme

Hydrotherapy formed an important part of her naturopathy programme. Selected water-based therapies, including hip baths, underwater massage and aqua-based cleansing procedures, were provided under professional supervision.

The purpose was to provide supportive care for digestive comfort, relaxation and overall wellbeing. Each therapy was incorporated as part of the broader treatment plan rather than being presented as a standalone solution.

For Leelawati, the residential setting itself also created an opportunity to step away from the hurried routine that often accompanies modern life and give greater attention to food, rest and the body’s natural rhythms.

Mud Therapy and Therapeutic Body Treatments

Mud therapy was another component of her programme. Therapeutic mud applications have traditionally formed part of naturopathic care and are used as supportive modalities for relaxation and general wellbeing.

Her programme also included selected abdominal applications such as castor oil packs, gastrohepatic packs and cold packs, along with therapeutic body treatments.

For her joint-related discomfort, therapies including herbal potali massage, deep tissue massage and Nirvana Rejuvenation Massage were incorporated according to her clinical requirements.

The objective was not to treat every complaint separately, but to create a coordinated wellness programme that addressed her digestive concerns while supporting her overall physical comfort.

Diet Was Not an Afterthought

One of the most important elements of Leelawati’s programme was dietary discipline.

For someone who has experienced chronic digestive discomfort for years, food can become a source of anxiety. The question is no longer simply, “What do I like to eat?” It becomes, “What will happen after I eat this?”

At Nirvana, her diet was structured around her individual requirements, with emphasis on appropriate fibre intake, natural foods, meal discipline and a Satwik dietary pattern.

The intention was to help her develop sustainable eating habits rather than depend only on short-term interventions.

The Numbers Tell Part of the Story

An important feature of this case was the use of an objective clinical assessment rather than relying entirely on subjective impressions.

Leelawati’s constipation symptoms were assessed using the Patient Assessment of Constipation Symptoms (PAC-SYM) questionnaire.

Her score at admission on 6 September 2026 was 21. At discharge on 12 September 2026, the score was 3.

During the seven-day programme, she also reported substantial relief from bloating, acidity, heartburn and hard stools. She reported improvement in joint flexibility and a reduction in arthritic discomfort as well.

Her vital parameters remained stable during the residential stay under clinical supervision.

While these findings are encouraging, they represent the outcome documented during this particular seven-day clinical observation. They should not be interpreted as evidence that the same results will occur in every person with chronic constipation or Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Beyond Seven Days

Perhaps the most meaningful part of Leelawati’s experience is what happened beyond the treatment room.

A naturopathy programme does not end simply because a patient leaves the retreat. The more difficult part often begins afterwards—returning home and continuing the habits that were introduced during the programme.

Leelawati was counselled regarding post-discharge dietary and lifestyle practices and expressed her commitment to continuing the recommended routine.

Her case reflects an important principle of naturopathic care: health is not only about treating an existing complaint; it is also about understanding the habits and lifestyle patterns that influence how we feel every day.

At Nirvana Naturopathy & Retreat, Igatpuri, Nashik, under the guidance of Gurumaa Yogita Khatri, the focus is on creating a structured environment where naturopathy, hydrotherapy, mud therapy, therapeutic body treatments, nutrition and lifestyle practices come together under the supervision of qualified BNYS doctors.

For Leelawati, ten years of digestive discomfort had become something she had learned to live with. Her seven-day stay offered her something different—not a promise of a miracle, but a disciplined opportunity to listen to her body, change her routine and experience measurable improvement.

Sometimes, that is where a new health journey begins.
