Shani Academic Research Book to Release in Delhi 2025

First Academic Research Book on “Shani” to be Released in Delhi on October 4, 2025

New Delhi, September 1:
A landmark academic work, Shani: A Comprehensive Study of Saturn in Global Traditions, will be formally released on October 4, 2025, at the Constitution Club of India. The book, authored by Dr. Vandana Sharma ‘Diya’, Assistant Professor at the University of Delhi and Advisory Member of the Central Board of Film Certification, and co-authored by Mrityunjay Sharma, a well-established Jyotishacharya, marks the first exhaustive, research-based study of Saturn (Śani) across civilizations.

Unlike popular treatments that confine Saturn to superstition or astrological prediction, this book brings together classical texts, astronomy, astrology, history, and iconology into a single comparative framework. It examines how the enigmatic celestial body has been perceived across cultures and centuries, making the book a pioneering contribution to both academic research and public understanding.

The work has been made accessible to a wider readership through English-to-Hindi translation by Dr. Kaushalendra Singh, a well-known scholar of Buddhism, with co-translation by Purshottam Bihari, a bona fide student of the University of Delhi. Together, their efforts ensure that the book retains its scholarly rigor while also engaging a broad intellectual audience.

Dr. Sharma, who has previously written on philosophy, culture, and Indic traditions, here turns her attention to Saturn not as an object of fear but as a central figure in scientific inquiry, and cultural memory. The book provides a meticulously referenced account, ranging from Mesopotamian and Greco-Roman sources to Indian classical works, situating Saturn within a continuum of human thought that bridges science and tradition.

Published by Originals, an imprint of Low Price Publications, Delhi, the title is expected to serve as a standard reference for years to come.

The launch event at the Constitution Club is expected to draw scholars, cultural figures, and policymakers, underscoring the significance of a work that redefines the study of planetary traditions in an academic light.

With its blend of interdisciplinary scholarship and accessible presentation, Shani: A Comprehensive Study of Saturn in Global Traditions promises to become a standard reference for students, researchers, and general readers interested in the intersection of astronomy, astrology, history, and cultural studies.
